Lakshadweep is the answer, and it is clearly ahead of the other three on female literacy. In Census 2011, Lakshadweep recorded overall literacy of about 92.3 per cent, with female literacy around 88.3 per cent. That is the highest among the four options.

Why the others fall short:

• Chandigarh: female literacy is about 81 per cent. Its overall figure is strong, but the female number trails Lakshadweep by a wide margin.
• Puducherry: female literacy is about 80 per cent. Its overall figure is decent, but it does not come close to Lakshadweep on the female column.
• Daman and Diu: female literacy is around 79 to 80 per cent, again below Lakshadweep.
