The 61st round of the NSS (July 2004 to June 2005) put the current daily status (CDS) unemployment rate at roughly 8 per cent, with rural and urban figures very close to each other. CDS measures unemployment over the reference week, so it captures short spells of joblessness that the usual status measure misses, which is why its rate sits above the usual status figure.

Why the others fail:

• B) 5% is too low for CDS in this round. It is closer to the usual status magnitudes that many aspirants confuse with CDS.
