The Mughal emperor Akbar ( 1542-1605), being a great lover of Indian literature and culture, has the credit of having translations done of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata into Persian to make them popular amongst Persian-knowing people, especially Muslims- as in his time Persian was the Court language of Mughal India. The first Ramayana in Persian was by Mulla’ Abdul Qadir Badayuni in 1584 AD. Emperor Akbar asked him to translate it from Sanskrit.
