15th Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas in January 2019 will be held in which city?

The answer is A) Varanasi. The 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, from 21 to 23 January 2019. The event is organised by the Ministry of External Affairs and marks 9 January, the day Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa in 1915. Its purpose is diaspora engagement, so the choice of Varanasi, a major city in UP, is a deliberate signal.

Why the others are wrong:

• Vadodara is a Gujarat city that has not hosted this edition. Gujarat did host an earlier edition at Gandhinagar.
• Jaipur is Rajasthan's capital and not the venue for the 2019 event.
• Pune is in Maharashtra and was not the venue either.

For Mains, link this to the diaspora as a source of remittances, skills and soft power, and to the Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre and the Overseas Indian Citizen card.

Trap: Aspirants often pick Gujarat-based cities because earlier editions were there. Check the specific year, not the general pattern.
