Correct Answer: 1 only. Only statement 1 is correct. The coal sector was nationalized in 1972 (prime ministership of Indira Gandhi). The coal blocks (at present) are allocated on auction basis and not on lottery basis. Bids are invited and coal blocks are allocated. India has 5 th largest coal reserves in the world and due to poor quality of coal have to import, India have to import to meet domestic obligation. The statement 3 is incorrect because India continues to import coal (200 million tonnes imported in 2019) and have not became self-reliant or self-sufficient as of yet.
