Consider the following statements in respect of the 32nd Summer Olympics : 1. The official motto for this Olympics is ‘A New World’. 2. Sport Climbing, Surfing, Skateboarding, Karate and Baseball are included in this Olympics. Which of the above statements is/are correct?

The 32nd Summer Olympics was Tokyo 2020, held in 2021 after the one-year postponement due to COVID-19. Only statement 2 is correct.

• Statement 1 is wrong. The official motto was 'United by Emotion'. 'A New World' is not the motto, so this statement fails.
• Statement 2 is correct. Tokyo 2020 introduced sport climbing, surfing, skateboarding and karate for the first time. Baseball (with softball) returned after its absence since 2008. All five were in the programme.

The core concept is the Olympic programme. The IOC lets host cities propose additional sports, and Tokyo used this to add new, youth-oriented events. For Mains (GS-II and current affairs), this links to India's record Tokyo performance of seven medals, including Neeraj Chopra's javelin gold, the first athletics gold for India.

Trap: Aspirants often guess the motto from Olympic slogans of other editions. Memorise the official motto of each Games separately, and treat the sports list as a separate fact.
